Liverpool Airport

Liverpool John Lennon Airport was formerly known as Speke Airport, and is located adjacent to the estuary of the River Mersey 12km south-east of the centre of Liverpool off the A561 (or junction 6 of the M62 or junction 12 of the M56)

In recent years Liverpool has been one of Europe's fastest growing airports, increasing its annual passenger numbers from 875,000 in 1998 to over 5 million last year. Parking facilities, have been extended to keep pace with the increased demand with the construction of a new multi-storey car park.

Six of the major car hire companies operate from the airport next to the Arrivals area.  The car rental area where you return your car is conveniently situated close to the airport terminal building.

You can just turn up and book a car but to be sure that a hire car will be available it is recommended to pre book. You can get to and from Liverpool Airport by a variety of methods including Private Liverpool Airport Transfers. With a Private Transfer you would be met in the arrivals hall by your own driver who will then take you on to your chosen destination.

The terminal building is split into 3 levels: Levels 1 and 3 are before going through security so are open to the general public. Level 2 is after security and is for travellers only.

There is a taxi rank just outside the entrance to the terminal building.  It takes around 25 minutes to travel to the City Centre which is about 8 miles away.

All bus and coach stops are at the front of the terminal building.  There are very good links from the airport to the City Centre and the Railway Stations (Lime Street, South Parkway, Hunts Cross) and surrounding local areas.

There is no Railway Station or connection at the airport but you can take the either the 81A or 89 buses which stops at Hunts Cross Railway Station, or the Airlink 500 which stops at Lime Street Railway Station, where you can make onward connections. For luggage lost in transit you will have to contact the airline or tour operator you have travelled with.  If your luggage does not appear on the baggage reclaim belt do not leave this area without contacting a member of staff first.
